Select image categories
Open Settings to remove all supported image tags or choose GPS, camera, author, dates, comments and thumbnails. You can preserve the image color profile. These choices apply to JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and HEIC.
Review documents carefully
PDFs become page-only copies. Office cleanup clears document properties, but comments, tracked changes and embedded media need a separate review. Keep your original if you need editable forms or signatures.
Check the final sharing copy
Editing or exporting a file again may add new metadata. Inspect the file you actually plan to send, review the remaining tags, and check visible names and addresses separately.
Preparing a product photo for sharing
A seller takes a JPG at home. Inspection shows GPS coordinates, a camera model and an author name. They select the GPS, camera and author categories, clean a copy, then check the after-cleaning tags before sending it to a client.
The visible product photo remains, but any address printed on a package still needs separate editing. Actual results depend on the tags and format in your file.

Does AI Metadata Remover use AI to detect or erase content?+
The tool inspects and removes supported file metadata using format-specific cleanup. It does not identify every AI-generated file, erase visible content or guarantee removal of AI labels. Its privacy review is based on detected tags.
Will AI Metadata Remover stop Instagram from showing an AI label?+
Not reliably. AI Metadata Remover can clean supported embedded tags before you upload a file, but it cannot guarantee that Instagram will omit or remove an AI info label. Meta uses industry-standard signals and uploader disclosures to label AI content. Cleaning a downloaded copy also does not change an existing Instagram post. Use the tool to reduce unnecessary file metadata and follow Instagram's AI disclosure requirements when publishing.
How is metadata cleanup useful before posting on Instagram?+
For example, a photo taken at home may contain GPS coordinates or camera details you do not want to share. Inspect the original file, remove unwanted supported tags, and review the cleaned copy before uploading it. This helps reduce the personal information attached to your file; it does not remove visible addresses, faces or Instagram location tags you add to a post.
What is metadata, and why remove it before sharing?+
Metadata is information stored inside a file, such as a photo’s GPS location, camera model, capture date or a document’s author. Removing unnecessary tags helps you share less personal information with a file.
How do I remove EXIF data and GPS location from photos?+
Upload your photo and select Inspect metadata to see its embedded tags. Use Cleaning settings to remove all supported image metadata or selected categories such as GPS and camera details. Clean the file, review the remaining tags, and download your copy.
Which file formats can I clean?+
Upload JPG, JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, HEIC, SVG, PDF, DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, MP3, WAV, OGG, FLAC, MP4, MOV or WebM files. Each file can be up to 20MB, and you can queue up to 10 files. SVG files are downloaded as PNG images.
Can I remove metadata from PDF and Office documents?+
Yes. PDFs are rebuilt as page-only copies with document properties and XMP metadata removed. Forms, bookmarks, attachments and signatures are not preserved. Word, Excel and PowerPoint files have document properties cleared; comments, tracked changes and embedded media need separate review.
Will cleaning change image quality or video playback?+
Supported image tags are stripped without re-encoding the pixels, and image orientation is preserved. You can choose to keep the color profile. SVG converts to PNG. Audio and video streams are copied without re-encoding; chapters, subtitles, attachments and data tracks are omitted. Review the downloaded file before sharing.
Are my files uploaded or stored?+
Files are uploaded to GenImager for processing in temporary storage and deleted after processing. You download a separate cleaned copy, so the original on your device stays unchanged.
Can I use AI Metadata Remover for free?+
Sign in to see your available daily cleanups. Your active plan determines your allowance; a plan with zero cleanups does not include this feature. If you have no active plan, you can clean one file per day. Each successful file cleanup counts once; inspection, downloads and failed cleanups do not count. Daily allowances reset at midnight UTC.
Does metadata removal hide visible personal information?+
No. Removing metadata does not erase faces, visible names, addresses, watermarks or spoken information. Technical tags may also remain. Review the cleaned file and its remaining metadata before sharing.
